  • Human brain is built up on survival (e.g.: tiger)
  • 3 big areas:
    • Reptiles
    • Mammals
    • Pre-frontal cortex
    • Social survival: neuroscience vs Maslow: social needs are as important as food
    • Social pain is physical pain: the same part of the brain is active
    • Social brain: brain is a social organ, that’s why we are able to “read minds”

  • Our brain has a radar (that works also in social situations):
    • Threat (Adrenalin, Cortisol): no engagement
    • Reward (Serotonin, Oxytocin): engagement, performance – to have a high performing team, you need to build trust!
    • Emotional bank account, the currency is trust
    • SCARF:
      • Status: Relative importance to others
      • Certainty: we want to know what’s going on, being able to predict the future
      • Autonomy: sense of having a choice to control our life
      • Relatedness: we want to be connected: we look for similarities – try to be in the group
      • Fairness: emotional decision if somebody treats us fair or not, perception of fair exchange
      • Note: Even if you criticize people, be sure that the relationship is not broken!
